Signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) proteins are a family of intracellular transcription factors that mediate cellular responses to cytokines, hormones, and growth factors. They are crucial for regulating cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, immunity, and apoptosis. STAT proteins are activated through phosphorylation by Janus kinases (JAKs), leading to dimerization, nuclear translocation, and binding to DNA to regulate target gene expression.
