Overview

Signaling lymphocytic activation molecule family member 5 (SLAMF5, also known as CD84) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily and a member of the SLAM family of receptors. It is broadly expressed on hematopoietic cells, including T cells, B cells, natural killer cells, dendritic cells, and others. SLAMF5 primarily mediates homophilic (self-ligand) interactions during cell–cell communication, functioning both as an adhesion molecule and as a signaling receptor. It plays a critical role in regulating autophagy and the production of inflammatory cytokines in immune cells, linked to its ITSM-containing cytoplasmic tail which recruits signaling adaptors. Dysregulation of SLAMF5 function has implications in cancer, inflammation, and immune responses to infection[1][2][3][4][7].
