Silent information regulator protein homolog 1 (SIRT1)

Target
SIRT1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Histone modification, Transcription factor, Sirtuin, NAD+-dependent deacetylase
01

Overview

Silent information regulator protein homolog 1 (SIRT1) is an NAD+-dependent deacetylase that regulates gene expression by removing acetyl groups from histones and non-histone proteins. It plays diverse roles in cellular physiology, including regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, metabolism, energy homeostasis, stress response, aging processes, and cancer biology. SIRT1 is ubiquitously expressed across tissues but has particularly important roles in the liver, pancreas, and brain.
