KpSSB (single-stranded DNA-binding protein from *Klebsiella pneumoniae*) is a bacterial protein essential for binding and protecting single-stranded DNA intermediates in the processes of DNA replication, repair, and recombination. Its function is analogous to that of Escherichia coli SSB, forming stable complexes with ssDNA and participating in the recruitment of other DNA metabolism proteins by direct protein-protein interactions. The crystal structure of KpSSB has been resolved, showing conserved aromatic residues involved in ssDNA binding and protein-protein interaction motifs. While critical for bacterial DNA maintenance, KpSSB itself is not a known drug target, though bacterial SSBs more generally have been considered for antimicrobial development in principle[1][3].
