Overview

Single stranded DNA binding protein 3 (SSBP3) is a nuclear protein predicted to bind single-stranded DNA and act as a transcription coactivator[4]. It is involved in the regulation of gene expression, particularly in promoting transcription by RNA polymerase II, and may play a role in hematopoietic progenitor cell differentiation[4]. SSBP3 contains domains such as a lissencephaly type-1-like homology (LisH) motif and a proline-rich domain, which are conserved across species[2]. Mutations or dosage alterations of SSBP3 are implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders, and 1p32.3 microdeletion/duplication syndromes, with effects potentially including intellectual disability, developmental delay, and autism-like behaviors[2]. SSBP3 may be involved in transcriptional regulation through binding single-stranded polypyrimidine sequences in promoters, such as in the alpha 2(I) collagen gene[4]. Human SSBP3 has no reported established role as a therapeutic target, and there are currently no approved drugs known to directly interact with SSBP3[4].
