Overview

Single-stranded DNA-binding protein 4 is a DNA-binding protein encoded by the SSBP4 gene in humans. It binds tightly to single-stranded DNA and is predicted to be involved in positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. SSBP4, like other members of the single-stranded DNA-binding protein family, is likely active in the nucleus, where it stabilizes single-stranded DNA regions and may play a role in transcription regulation. An important paralog of SSBP4 is SSBP3. Diseases associated with SSBP4 include childhood kidney cell carcinoma and branchiootorenal syndrome 1. No drugs or therapeutics are known to interact directly with SSBP4, nor is it currently considered a therapeutic target.
