Six Transmembrane Epithelial Antigen of the Prostate 1 (STEAP1)

Target
STEAP1
Molecular classification
Integral membrane protein, Six transmembrane protein, Metalloreductase-related protein family
01

Overview

STEAP1 is a cell surface antigen and integral membrane protein belonging to the STEAP family. It is characterized by six transmembrane α-helices and is predominantly expressed at cell-cell junctions. Unlike other members, STEAP1 lacks an intracellular NADPH-binding domain and does not function as a classical metalloreductase. It is highly upregulated in several human cancers, particularly prostate cancer, making it a promising therapeutic target. Knockdown studies show its role promoting tumor growth through proliferation pathways. Monoclonal antibodies against STEAP1 inhibit tumor growth.

02

Mechanism of action

Monoclonal antibodies inhibit tumor growth; knockdown leads to G1 cell cycle arrest, suppression of c-Myc signaling and increased apoptosis.
