Six-Transmembrane Epithelial Antigen of the Prostate 2

Molecular classification
Metalloreductase, Transmembrane protein
01

Overview

Six-transmembrane epithelial antigen of the prostate 2 (STEAP2) is a metalloreductase involved in metal ion reduction and cellular metabolism. It is highly expressed in prostate tissue and prostate cancer cells, making it a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target. STEAP2 functions by reducing extracellular Fe³⁺ to Fe²⁺ for cellular uptake and may also be involved in copper metabolism. Recent structural studies have elucidated its electron transfer mechanism involving FAD and heme groups.
