Overview

SKAP1 antisense RNA 2 (SKAP1-AS2) is a long non-coding RNA gene found in humans. It is also known as BTR and has been referenced in the context of the BT474 breast cancer cell line. SKAP1-AS2 does not encode a classical receptor, enzyme, transporter, or signaling protein, and there is no evidence that it is a direct therapeutic target or the basis for any pharmacological intervention. The gene is listed in major databases (HGNC:55570, NCBI Gene:105371807, Ensembl:ENSG00000235300), but functional details, disease links, or drug interactions remain uncharacterized. Despite the mention of “thyroid hormone receptor alpha” in some alternate designations, SKAP1-AS2 is not the same as "thyroid hormone receptor alpha" (THRA/TR-alpha), which is a nuclear receptor protein and pharmacological target. The confusion arises from overlapping historical nomenclature and gene rearrangements seen in breast cancer cell lines, but these are now considered distinct molecular entities.
