Skeletal and cardiac muscle cells, collectively known as striated muscle cells, are specialized biological units designed for contraction and force generation. Skeletal muscle cells are multinucleated fibers responsible for voluntary movement and posture, while cardiac muscle cells (cardiomyocytes) are branched cells that facilitate the rhythmic, involuntary pumping of the heart (StatPearls, 2023). Safety concerns associated with drugs affecting these cells include the risk of rhabdomyolysis or cardiac arrhythmias.
