Skin barrier function restoration via occlusive moisturization is a treatment approach that involves applying substances (occlusives) to the skin to form a physical barrier over the stratum corneum, thereby reducing transepidermal water loss and promoting the restoration of normal epidermal hydration and lipid structure[1][3][9]. Occlusive moisturizers like petrolatum, mineral oil, and dimethicone are commonly used and act by trapping water in the skin, restoring and maintaining the integrity of the skin's barrier.
