Dermal fibroblasts are specialized cells located within the dermis, the middle layer of the skin. Their primary function is to generate and maintain connective tissue, which is essential for skin structure, integrity, and repair after injury. These cells are responsible for producing key components of the extracellular matrix (ECM), such as collagen, elastin, fibronectin, and proteoglycans.
