Mechanism of action

Humectants attract water from the atmosphere or deeper skin layers into the stratum corneum. Occlusives create a barrier to prevent transepidermal water loss. Emollients fill spaces between skin cells to improve texture and barrier function. NMF components bind and retain water within corneocytes.
