SKP2 pseudogene 1 (SKP2P1) is a non-coding genomic locus designated as a pseudogene and is homologous to the SKP2 gene. Unlike SKP2, which encodes an F-box protein functioning as the substrate recognition subunit of the SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F-box) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex and acts as an oncogene involved in cell cycle regulation and several cancers[1][3][5][9], SKP2P1 does not encode a functional protein and has no known role in human biology, disease, or drug action. Caution is advised to avoid confusion with SKP2, as only the latter is a validated oncologic target and a member of the F-box protein family.
