Overview

Skull bone refers to any of the 22 bones (or 29, if including inner ear bones and hyoid) that form the human skull, comprising the neurocranium (braincase) and viscerocranium (facial skeleton)[3][1]. These bones are chiefly responsible for protecting the brain and supporting facial structures. They are joined by immovable joints called sutures and are formed embryologically by coordinated growth and development involving multiple signaling pathways and cellular differentiation processes[2]. Skull bones are not molecular targets; they are structural anatomical units. Clinical attention may be directed toward skull bone defects, fractures, or diseases affecting bone tissue and remodeling, but "skull bone" itself is not a druggable target or molecular entity in the sense of a protein, receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][3][4].
