SLAM family member 6 pseudogene 1 (SLAMF6P1) is classified as a pseudogene and thus is generally considered non-protein-coding[1][5]. Pseudogenes are genomic elements related to protein-coding genes but have lost their protein-coding potential due to mutations or truncations. While some pseudogenes have been implicated in regulation of biological processes through noncoding RNA or by acting as microRNA decoys, there is no evidence that SLAMF6P1 has such roles. Unlike its parent gene SLAMF6, which encodes a cell surface immune receptor with regulatory functions in T cell activity, SLAMF6P1 is not known to encode any functional protein or receptor and is not a therapeutic target[1][3][5]. SLAMF6P1 is not a functional receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target, but a pseudogene; thus, it should not be classified as a drug target or biomarker. The only functional molecule in this family relevant for drug targeting and disease is SLAM family member 6 (SLAMF6 or CD352), not SLAMF6P1[1][5].
