Overview

SLC25A34 and TMEM82 antisense RNA 1 (SLC25A34-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 1p36.21[4][6]. It is also known by the alias "RP11-169K16.4"[1][6][8][9]. As an lncRNA, SLC25A34-AS1 does not code for a protein but is thought to function in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, potentially by acting as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to modulate the activity of microRNAs and thereby influence other gene products[2].\n\nResearch has identified its differential expression in certain cancers—specifically, lower levels of a closely related lncRNA, RP11-169D4.1-001, are associated with a better prognosis in hypopharyngeal cancer patients[2]. While some lncRNAs are under investigation as potential drug targets or biomarkers, SLC25A34-AS1 currently lacks direct evidence for interacting drugs or established therapeutic applications. There are no known associated safety concerns, but further studies on its function and disease relevance are ongoing.
