SLC28A2 antisense RNA 1 is a long non-coding RNA, transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the SLC28A2 gene on chromosome 15 in primates. Antisense RNAs such as SLC28A2-AS1 generally function to regulate the expression of their sense counterparts through multiple molecular mechanisms, including transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, and modulation of RNA stability or splicing. While antisense lncRNAs are increasingly recognized as important regulators of gene expression and have been implicated in various biological processes and diseases, there are currently no direct links between SLC28A2-AS1 and specific pathologies, nor any drugs targeting it or its use as a biomarker. Its function is inferred primarily from general properties of antisense lncRNAs and its genomic localization. If more functional or disease associations are discovered in future research, this information may need to be updated.
