SLC2A4 regulator (SLC2A4RG)

Target
SLC2A4RG
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, DNA-binding protein
01

Overview

SLC2A4 regulator (SLC2A4RG) is a nuclear transcription factor that specifically regulates the expression of solute carrier family 2 member 4 (SLC2A4, encoding GLUT4), a key insulin-responsive glucose transporter[2][4][7][10]. SLC2A4RG binds to a defined consensus DNA sequence (5'-GCCGGCG-3') in the promoter of target genes, and can interact with other transcription factors such as myocyte enhancer factor 2 (MEF2), to induce or enhance gene transcription[2][4][7]. It is implicated in the regulation of GLUT4 expression in adipose and muscle tissues—central to whole-body glucose homeostasis—as well as in neuronal cells where it functions as a regulatory factor for genes involved in neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Huntington disease[4][7][10]. No direct drug targeting or clinical biomarkers specific to SLC2A4RG have been established. The gene is ubiquitously expressed, with higher levels in fat and kidney tissues[2].
