SLC6A17 antisense RNA 1 (SLC6A17-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene transcribed from the opposite (antisense) strand of the SLC6A17 locus. It does not encode a protein, but like other antisense lncRNAs, it may play a regulatory role in controlling the expression of the neighboring SLC6A17 protein-coding gene or other targets. There is currently little published functional or disease association data for SLC6A17-AS1. It is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or typical drug target and has no established clinical or drug interaction profile. The protein-coding gene SLC6A17 (solute carrier family 6 member 17) is a neutral amino acid vesicular transporter in the brain, but the antisense RNA (SLC6A17-AS1) is distinct and non-coding. No evidence was found in the results for SLC6A17-AS1 as a therapeutic target, receptor, or direct disease biomarker, nor for associated drugs, mechanisms, or safety issues.
