Target intelligence / Profile preview
SLC7A11 antisense RNA 1 (SLC7A11-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 4q28.31, transcribed antisense to the SLC7A11 protein-coding gene[2][4]. It does not encode a protein but regulates the expression of SLC7A11 and other targets, exerting effects on multiple cellular processes including cell proliferation, migration, and invasion[2][4][5]. SLC7A11-AS1 generally acts via antisense regulation; in cancers such as gastric and ovarian cancer, SLC7A11-AS1 appears to negatively regulate SLC7A11, dampening tumor growth by modulating oxidative stress response and cell cycle signals—especially the ASK1-p38 MAPK/JNK pathway[2][5]. In some tumors, its decreased expression correlates with poorer prognosis and more aggressive disease[2][5]. SLC7A11-AS1 may also influence cancer phenotypes by interacting with specific microRNAs (e.g., miR-145, miR-4775) and nuclear proteins like hnRNPK[4][5]. It is being studied as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker in oncology due to its emerging roles in tumor suppression and cancer progression[2][5].
