Overview

SLC9A3 antisense RNA 1 (SLC9A3-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 5p15.33[1]. It functions primarily as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), acting by sponging microRNAs such as miR-486-5p, and thereby upregulating genes such as E2F transcription factor 6 (E2F6)[2][3][6]. SLC9A3-AS1 has been implicated in several malignancies, particularly nasopharyngeal carcinoma and lung cancer, where its high expression correlates with greater tumor aggressiveness, enhanced proliferation, migration, and invasion, and poorer overall patient survival[2][6]. Its knockdown or silencing leads to reduced tumor growth and increased tumor cell apoptosis. SLC9A3-AS1 is thus considered both a candidate therapeutic target and a putative biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. It is sometimes referred to by its alias UC011CLY.2[1][4]. There are currently no direct drug interactions or known drugs targeting SLC9A3-AS1, but its mechanism offers potential avenues for future RNA-based therapeutics.
