SLCO4A1 antisense RNA 1 (SLCO4A1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 20, transcribed antisense to the SLCO4A1 gene. It functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sequestering microRNAs and thereby modulating the expression of oncogenes such as IKKα and XIAP. SLCO4A1-AS1 is upregulated in multiple cancer types, including non-small cell lung cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and bladder cancer, where it promotes tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibits apoptosis largely through modulation of pathways like NF-κB and by influencing apoptosis regulators. These findings suggest that SLCO4A1-AS1 represents a potential biomarker and novel therapeutic target in several oncologic contexts, although it is not currently associated with any approved drug therapies and research is at an early stage.
