SLX9 ribosome biogenesis factor is a protein involved in the early stages of ribosome assembly in eukaryotes. It participates in processing pre-ribosomal RNA transcripts, specifically in the maturation of SSU-rRNA (small subunit rRNA) derived from tricistronic rRNA transcripts, which also contain 5.8S and LSU (large subunit) rRNA sequences[1][2][6]. SLX9 is predicted to be localized in the nucleolus, the site of ribosome synthesis within the cell[1][6]. It belongs to the large family of ribosome biogenesis factors, which are critical for correct ribosome assembly but are not structural ribosomal components themselves[3][8]. There is currently no experimental evidence to support a direct molecular function annotation beyond its predicted roles, and it is not associated with direct disease mechanisms, druggability, or use as a clinical biomarker at present[5][7].
