SMAD specific E3 ubiquitin protein ligase 2 pseudogene 1 (SMURF2P1) is a pseudogene locus related to the SMURF2 gene, located on human chromosome 17. It is involved in a naturally occurring readthrough transcript with another pseudogene, LRRC37BP1. This readthrough transcript is not predicted to encode a functional protein because translation would likely trigger nonsense-mediated mRNA decay. The locus is therefore non-functional and not curated as a transcribed or protein-coding region. SMURF2P1 does not function as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any established therapeutic target, and there is currently no evidence of any biological function, disease association, or drug interaction for this pseudogene[1][7][5].
