Target intelligence / Profile preview

Smad Ubiquitination Regulatory Factor 1

Molecular classification
E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase, Enzyme, NEDD4 subfamily
01

Overview

SMURF1 is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that negatively regulates the BMP and TGF-beta signaling pathways by ubiquitinating and targeting key signaling molecules, such as R-SMADs and receptors, for proteasomal degradation. It plays diverse roles in cellular physiology, including cell growth, morphogenesis, migration, and development, and is implicated in various diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and immune disorders. Its activity is regulated by phosphorylation and interactions with substrates and adaptors.
