SMAD3 antisense RNA 1 (SMAD3-AS1), also known as AC012568.1, is a long non-coding RNA annotated as a natural antisense transcript of the SMAD3 gene. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it is transcribed from the opposite strand of its partner protein-coding gene (SMAD3). While natural antisense transcripts can regulate gene expression through epigenetic, transcriptional, or post-transcriptional mechanisms, there are currently no published functional studies describing the specific role or biological impact of SMAD3-AS1. It is not considered a canonical therapeutic target, and no drugs or therapeutics are reported to act on this molecule.
