Overview

Small Cajal body-specific RNA 1 (SCARNA1/ACA35) is a non-coding small nucleolar RNA localized in the Cajal bodies of the cell nucleus. It is a member of the H/ACA box scaRNA family and serves as a guide RNA for pseudouridylation of U2 spliceosomal RNA at residue U89. By aiding post-transcriptional modification of snRNA, SCARNA1 participates in the assembly and function of the spliceosome complex, contributing to accurate and regulated pre-mRNA splicing. While scaRNAs are crucial for RNA maturation and cell viability, SCARNA1 itself is not considered a classical drug or therapeutic target.
