Small Cajal body-specific RNA 10 (SCARNA10) is a non-coding RNA from the scaRNA family, which localizes specifically to the Cajal body, a nuclear sub-organelle involved in the biogenesis and modification of spliceosomal snRNAs[1][2][3][4]. SCARNA10 is a member of the H/ACA box snoRNA-like class and functions as a guide RNA for pseudouridylation, a post-transcriptional modification crucial for snRNA maturation and splicing activity[1][3][4]. In humans, SCARNA10 is evolutionarily conserved, and recent research links its expression and activity to the progression and diagnosis of liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma; suppression of SCARNA10 may inhibit fibrosis, while overexpression may aggravate it in cellular models[4]. SCARNA10 and other scaRNAs are important for the proper function of the spliceosome, but they are not direct therapeutic targets, receptors, or enzymes as commonly defined[4][5][6].
