Small Cajal body-specific RNA 3 (SCARNA3, also known as HBI-100) is a non-coding small RNA molecule that localizes to Cajal bodies, unique subnuclear structures involved in the biogenesis and modification of small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs)[3][4]. SCARNA3 belongs to the family of small Cajal body-specific RNAs (scaRNAs), a subclass of small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) that serve as guide RNAs directing the biochemical modification (such as pseudouridylation or 2’-O-methylation) of snRNAs involved in pre-mRNA splicing[3][4]. Like other scaRNAs, SCARNA3 is not a receptor, enzyme, or classical therapeutic target, but its expression and function may be altered in disease contexts, particularly certain cancers, where global deregulation of snoRNAs and scaRNAs has been reported[3]. No known drugs target SCARNA3 directly, and it is not currently used as a clinical biomarker or therapeutic target.
