Overview

Small Cajal body-specific RNA 7 (SCARNA7) is a member of the small Cajal body-specific RNAs, a subclass of small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) found predominantly in the Cajal bodies within the nucleus[2][3][4][5]. SCARNA7 functions primarily as a guide RNA for the site-specific 2’-O-methylation of U1 snRNA, an essential modification required for proper spliceosome assembly and function[3]. It is classified as an H/ACA scaRNA and is intron-encoded. Recent studies have identified SCARNA7 as a potential biomarker for determining EGFR mutation status in patients with non-small cell lung cancer, indicating a possible diagnostic role but not a direct therapeutic target[1]. No known drugs interact directly with SCARNA7, nor does it serve as a therapeutic target for drug development.
