Target intelligence / Profile preview

Small Conductance Calcium-Activated Potassium Channel Subfamily N Member 3 (KCNN3)

Target
KCNN3
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Potassium channel, Calcium-activated potassium channel
01

Overview

KCNN3 encodes a small conductance calcium-activated potassium channel protein (SK3) that regulates neuronal excitability by contributing to the afterhyperpolarization (AHP) following action potentials. It also plays a role in vascular tone regulation and is hormonally regulated in reproductive tissues. Dysregulation of KCNN3 is associated with Zimmermann-Laband Syndrome 3 and has potential links to sleep apnea, SIDS and hypertension.
