Overview

Small cysteine and glycine repeat-containing protein 2 (SCYGR2), also known as keratin-associated protein 28-2 (KRTAP28-2), is a structural protein primarily found in the hair cortex, where it is part of the interfilamentous matrix embedding hair keratin intermediate filaments[3][4][5][9]. This matrix facilitates the formation of a rigid and resistant hair shaft by enabling extensive disulfide bond cross-linking between its abundant cysteine residues and those of hair keratins. SCYGR2 is predicted to be located in intermediate filaments, with expression and function restricted to hair structure and formation. No known disease association, therapeutic targeting, drug interaction, or biomarker utility has been established for SCYGR2 as of current data[3][4][8][9].
