Overview

Small cysteine and glycine repeat-containing protein 4 (SCYGR4) is a structural protein found primarily in the hair cortex, where it contributes to the formation of the interfilamentous matrix that embeds hair keratin intermediate filaments[2][5][9]. These proteins are essential for creating a rigid and resistant hair shaft via extensive disulfide bond cross-linking of abundant cysteine residues within hair keratins. The protein is a member of the keratin-associated protein family, especially the high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine group, and plays a structural role in hair biology[2][5]. There is no experimental evidence linking SCYGR4 directly to therapeutic intervention, disease mechanisms, or drug targeting. No biomarker or safety data is available for this protein[5][6].
