Overview

Small glutamine-rich tetratricopeptide repeat-containing protein beta (SGTB) is a co-chaperone protein characterized by a high proportion of glutamine residues and the presence of tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) motifs, which are protein interaction domains. SGTB is highly homologous to its paralog SGTA and is believed to modulate the activity of heat shock proteins (HSP70/HSP90) and contribute to the protein quality control machinery in the cytoplasm. It is primarily expressed in human brain and testis and forms complexes involved in regulating protein folding, degradation, and cellular stress response. SGTB is not classified as a therapeutic target, nor has it been directly linked to major diseases or targeted by known drugs. Its main biological function is as a co-chaperone in protein quality control and folding processes, acting through interactions with molecular chaperones and proteostasis machinery.
