Overview

Small integral membrane protein 22 (SMIM22), also known as CASIMO1 (Cancer-associated small integral membrane open reading frame 1), is a protein-coding gene product found in humans. It is involved in the regulation of lipid droplet formation, cell migration, and actin cytoskeleton organization, likely through interaction with squalene epoxidase (SQLE). SMIM22 is predicted to be located in the late endosome and membrane and is expressed in multiple tissues. Its activity has been linked to cellular processes relevant to cancer, including cell proliferation and migration, but it is not formally recognized as a therapeutic target class such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][2][7][8].
