Small lysine-rich protein 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000288139) is a noncoding segment of the human genome that resembles the protein-coding gene for small lysine-rich protein 1 (SMKR1). Pseudogenes are typically formed by gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and while they may retain sequence similarity to parental genes, they usually do not encode functional proteins due to accumulated mutations and lack of regulatory elements. This pseudogene has no confirmed functional role, no involvement in known drug interactions, and is not a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes may in some cases be transcribed and participate in gene regulatory networks, but no evidence exists for such a function in this particular pseudogene.
