Overview

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide B2 (SNRPB2) is a protein encoded by the SNRPB2 gene in humans. It is a core component of the U2 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (U2 snRNP) complex, which is part of the spliceosome—the molecular machinery responsible for the removal of introns from pre-mRNA during mRNA splicing. SNRPB2 specifically binds to stem loop IV of U2 snRNA and is required for proper spliceosome function. Autoantibodies against SNRPB2 are frequently found in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, highlighting its immunological relevance. Mutations or dysregulation of SNRPB2 are associated with diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy[1][3][8].
