Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide E pseudogene is a non-protein-coding genomic locus similar in sequence to the SNRPE gene, but lacks protein-coding function due to disabling mutations such as premature stop codons or frameshifts[2][5]. While the parental SNRPE gene encodes a core component of the spliceosomal machinery essential for pre-mRNA processing[3][4][7], its pseudogenes (including ENSG00000270612) may be transcribed as long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), especially in pathological contexts such as cancer. These lncRNA transcripts can exert regulatory effects—most notably, by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) and modulating the availability of microRNAs, thereby influencing expression of other genes, including their parental protein-coding gene[1]. However, there is no evidence that this specific pseudogene is a therapeutic target, nor that it serves as a biomarker, is druggable, or is associated with notable safety concerns.
