Overview

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide E pseudogene 2 (SNRPEP2, bA390F4.4) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, derived from the gene SNRPE, which encodes a core protein component of the spliceosomal machinery (splicing of pre-mRNA). SNRPEP2 is not transcribed into a functional protein and contains disabling mutations characteristic of processed pseudogenes, such as lack of introns, presence of polyadenylation tracts, and specific point mutations. Like most pseudogenes, SNRPEP2 does not have direct biological or pathological roles and is not considered a drug target or biomarker. If you are looking for drug targets, functional proteins, or genes with known roles in disease or therapy, this pseudogene does not qualify. If you require information about its parental gene (SNRPE), that gene does code for a functional protein with biological roles.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None established for the pseudogene itself; does not encode a functional protein
04

Disease associations

None for this pseudogene; parental gene SNRPE is implicated in certain diseases such as hypotrichosis and is a target in autoimmune disease systemic lupus erythematosus, but the pseudogene itself is not functionally implicated
