Overview

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide F (SNRPF) is a highly conserved protein encoded by the SNRPF gene. It acts as a core component of the spliceosomal small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), specifically U1, U2, U4, and U5 snRNPs, which are essential building blocks for the spliceosome complex involved in pre-mRNA splicing. SNRPF participates in both the major and minor (U12-type) spliceosomes, mediating the correct processing of pre-mRNA in the nucleus, and is also involved in histone 3'-end processing as part of the U7 snRNP. It is found predominantly in the nucleus and cytosol. Although SNRPF is critical for cell viability, there are currently no known therapeutic drugs that directly target this protein, and it is not regarded as a primary therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter)[1][2][4][6][7]. However, its dysregulation is associated with certain diseases, most notably spinal muscular atrophy, and it has been identified as a biomarker for nasopharynx carcinoma[1].
