Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide G pseudogene 17 (SNRPGP17) is a non-functional pseudogene related to small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide G (SNRPG). Pseudogenes are DNA sequences resembling functional genes but typically lack protein-coding ability due to mutations or deletions. The functional gene, SNRPG, encodes a core component of spliceosomal small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), important in pre-mRNA splicing and cellular processes like cell proliferation and apoptosis[3]. SNRPGP17 itself does not have recognized biological, diagnostic, or therapeutic relevance.
