Overview

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide G pseudogene 18 (SNRPGP18) is a human pseudogene; it is a DNA sequence that resembles the functional SNRPG gene but contains mutations or alterations that prevent it from being correctly transcribed and/or translated into a functional protein[1][3][5]. Pseudogenes such as SNRPGP18 are classified as nonfunctional genomic elements—they may arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition, leading to lost or altered coding potential, and do not produce functional proteins[5]. SNRPGP18 is not considered a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs, biological functions, or disease roles specifically associated with this locus. There is no evidence for its use as a biomarker or its involvement in the mechanism of action of any therapeutics. Its principal relevance is in genomic studies as a representative pseudogene.
