Overview

Small nuclear RNA activating complex polypeptide 3 (SNAPC3) is a subunit of the SNAPc transcription factor complex, essential for initiating transcription of small nuclear RNA (snRNA) genes by both RNA polymerase II and III. SNAPC3 binds sequence-specifically to the proximal sequence element (PSE), a conserved promoter motif in snRNA gene promoters, and helps recruit key transcription factors such as TBP (TATA-binding protein) and BRF2 to the TATA box of U6 snRNA genes, enabling accurate transcription initiation. It is located in the nucleus (nucleolus, nuclear body) and interacts with SNAPC1 and the retinoblastoma protein. While it is associated with genetic diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, it is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target or a biomarker, and no drugs targeting SNAPC3 are known.
