Small nuclear RNA-activating complex polypeptide 5 (SNAPC5) is a protein subunit of the small nuclear RNA-activating protein complex (SNAPc), which is required for the transcriptional activation of snRNA genes by RNA polymerase II and III[1][2][4]. SNAPc binds to the proximal sequence element (PSE) in snRNA gene promoters, thereby facilitating the precise recruitment of transcriptional machinery and enabling gene expression regulation critical for cellular RNA processing. SNAPC5 (also known as SNAP19) is considered non-conserved and its primary role is thought to be stabilization of the SNAPc multi-subunit complex, rather than direct DNA binding or basal transcriptional activation[2][4]. While essential for correct assembly and function of the transcriptional complex, SNAPC5 is not generally considered a drug target, nor does it have known direct roles in disease pathogenesis outside of its fundamental cellular function[1].
