Overview

Small nucleolar RNA host gene 27 (SNHG27) is a member of the SNHG family of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). SNHGs act as host genes for small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) and are present in both the nucleus and cytoplasm, where they regulate various aspects of gene expression. SNHGs can influence DNA methylation, interact with transcription factors, regulate transcription, affect mRNA translation, act as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) that sponge microRNAs, and stabilize proteins by preventing their ubiquitination. Although SNHGs (including SNHG27) are often upregulated in various cancers and may play roles in tumorigenesis and cancer progression, SNHG27 is not a protein-coding gene or a classical therapeutic target (such as a receptor or enzyme). There are no known drugs that specifically target SNHG27, nor is it established as a biomarker or therapeutic target to date. Its potential significance appears primarily in gene regulation and oncogenesis associated with the broader SNHG family[1][2][3].
