Small nucleolar RNA host gene 28 (SNHG28) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), located on chromosome 1 (C1orf204), and is believed primarily to serve as a host for small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), which are involved in several aspects of RNA processing and modification within the nucleolus. It does not encode a protein with confirmed function in humans. There is limited published data about direct therapeutic relevance, clinical biomarker use, or pharmacological targeting. At present, SNHG28 is considered to have regulatory and structural roles related to RNA maturation, but it is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or well-defined therapeutic target. Most evidence points to SNHG28 primarily being a non-coding RNA gene rather than a protein-coding gene, although some database annotations list it as "putative uncharacterized protein SNHG28" due to open reading frames identified by predictive algorithms. SNHG28 is one of many so-called snoRNA host genes (SNHGs), a family of lncRNAs that commonly serve as scaffolds or precursors for snoRNAs. There is currently no evidence in the biomedical literature to support SNHG28 as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs that selectively interact with it, and it is not described in classifications used for clinical molecular risk stratification in cancer or genetic disease. Compared with other SNHG family members, some of which have been implicated in cancer or other diseases, SNHG28 has minimal direct disease association in the published literature. The gene is often listed in catalogs of lncRNAs or as a component in high-throughput RNA studies but lacks robust experimental validation as a target.
