Small nucleolar RNA host gene 31 (SNHG31) is a member of the SNHG family, comprising long non-coding RNAs that typically serve as host transcripts for embedded small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs)[3][5]. Like other SNHGs, SNHG31 is not translated into protein but may regulate gene expression by acting as a scaffold for snoRNA processing, participating in epigenetic modification, influencing specific gene transcription by interacting with chromatin modifiers, and possibly acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to modulate microRNA activity[1][5]. Members of the SNHG family, including SNHG31, have been found upregulated in several types of cancer, where their expression often correlates with enhanced cell proliferation, decreased apoptosis, and poorer patient prognosis[1][5]. There are currently no approved drugs targeting SNHG31 directly, and its main importance lies in its regulatory role in gene expression and potential association with disease pathology, especially cancer[3][5].
