Overview

Small nucleolar RNA host gene 33 (SNHG33), also known as LINC00888 or PAINT, is a **long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)** gene that does not encode a protein but serves as a host gene for small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs)[1][3][4]. Like other SNHGs, SNHG33 is transcribed into a full-length lncRNA that can be processed into smaller snoRNAs. Both forms (lncRNA and snoRNAs) may play regulatory roles. The broader SNHG family participates in regulation of gene expression at both the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, influences RNA processing, and can affect cell proliferation, migration, and apoptosis[4]. SNHG33 is associated with cancer, notably larynx cancer[3], but specific mechanisms and drug interactions have not been well established for this particular gene. It is not conventionally classified as a classic therapeutic target like receptors or enzymes, but may have emerging importance in cancer biology and as a candidate biomarker.
