Small nucleolar RNA SNORA44 (ACA44) is a member of the H/ACA box class of snoRNAs, which are small non-coding RNAs involved in the chemical modification of other RNA molecules, particularly ribosomal RNAs. SNORA44 guides the pseudouridylation of specific uridine residues in ribosomal RNA, contributing to proper ribosome assembly and function. The gene is located on chromosome 1 (1q21.3) and is expressed as an RNA molecule without translation into protein. This class of snoRNAs is ubiquitous in eukaryotic cells and is essential for the post-transcriptional maturation of ribosomal RNA. Current data indicate SNORA44 does not serve as a therapeutic target or biomarker and is not linked with human disease processes.
